(Southampton circa 1910)
228g caster sugar
113g (2tbsp) Golden syrup
1 small tin (170ml) Evaporated milk.
- Melt butter, golden syrup, vinegar, and water and mix together well.
- Add Evaporated milk.
- Boil 10 mins, or until few drops set in cold water.
- Pour onto a sheet of grease proof paper and spread evenly.
- Before completely cool, cut into pieces.
Makes approx 500g
Tip: Don’t be tempted to scrape the pot with a plastic spatula.
