My Great-Grandmother’s Toffee

28g butter
228g caster sugar
113g (2tbsp) Golden syrup
1tsp vinegar
1tsp water
1 small tin (170ml) Evaporated milk.

  1. Melt butter, golden syrup, vinegar, and water and mix together well.
  2. Add Evaporated milk.
  3.  Boil 10 mins, or until few drops set in cold water.
  4.  Pour onto a sheet of grease proof paper and spread evenly.
  5. Before completely cool, cut into pieces.

Makes approx 500g
Tip: Don’t be tempted to scrape the pot with a plastic spatula.
